OMG So Much To Catch Up On!
The last time I wrote something we were bedding down in Fishkill, Ny on Monday evening, December 18th. So much has happened so I will break this down into a couple of articles.
We pulled out of Fishkill around 10 am Tuesday morning. We both had some work to catch up on so we got up and spent several hours on our computers. It was in the low 30’s that morning so we were in no rush and had gotten within a 4-hour drive to our destination, Portsmouth, NH.
From Fishkill we headed into Connecticut. We drove around some major cities such as Hartford but were on the edges of town. Interstate roads that I am not use to even now. More curves and hills but what was stranger still was that it seemed like every exit off of the interstate was on the left. Okay CT this made no sense to this Florida boy. The left lane is the “Fast Lane” in almost every state we went through with signs reminding slower drivers to move over to the right.
So all of a sudden all the slower traffic was on the left side of the road which was totally opposite from the entire rest of the country.
Also, the speed limit was 65 and 55 on the interstate, not 70. Then, in a couple of spots the interstate forked and all of the signs had names of other roads but not the one we were trying to stay on!!! So you learned to get in a lane that a sign directed you to and stay there no matter what happened on the road.
From there we got into Massachusetts, and everything seemed to normalize again and we had pretty smooth sailing into New Hampshire, our new home to be! Driving these roads with the huge slabs of granite, rolling hills, and just beautiful scenery everywhere, reminded me of why I wanted to make this move.
Now, because I knew we were arriving in Portsmouth 2 days early, and that we were going to be walking around the city, I abandoned my shorts for jeans. Yes, there was sadness in my heart but excitement about the new weather. I still had on a short sleeve shirt though. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl going to a Justin Bieber concert with front row tickets. Feeling this trek coming to an end and knowing our new home was just around the corner.
I think I’m going to end this installment right here because there is so much to tell about coming in to our new home town, this article would be too long. I will try to do another article later today about getting into town, our stay at the hotel, which is right next door to our new apartment. There are people we need to talk about, and places, and food, there is so much more to tell about the next couple of days but, I will get caught up today and tomorrow I promise. Stay tuned…
